Kasper Larsen Juul's Maui Report
NorthSails team rider Kasper Lasrsen Juul (DEN-11) reporting from his latest training trip on Maui, testing the WARP F2012 and meeting sail designer Kai Hopf:
"The trip was my preparation for the 2012 season, and it turned out to be great. Before I went I was in contact with Kai, who offered to pick me up in the airport on Maui. It was really great to meet the man who has designed the sails, and to learn about his ideas and thoughts behind the sails.
During the winter I had only had a couple of opportunities to try out the new Warps.
In these conditions in Denmark it is hard to really get a feel for sails… (pic. 2)
In the conditions on Maui it is so much easier… (pic. 1,3)
The sails are working really well this year and has improved compared to last year. I found that the acceleration of the jibes is better and they are also more powerful. I can’t wait to get them to the race course.
It was really great to see the effort that was already put into developing the sails for next season. You can sometimes end up with the impression that freeride sails are not tested thoroughly. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was really interesting to see that Kai and Peter are out testing new ideas almost every day.
The level on Maui is extremely high, and I had some excellent training partners in Pierre and many other world cup sailors who was there preparing for the upcoming season and doing photo shoots."
